KORDON SELF-DIRECTED AND SELF-FUNDED ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM: WINTER-SPRING 2027
We welcome applications from all types of creative practitioners including visual artists, architects, filmmakers, writers, musicians, performing artists, curators and researchers and those working across disciplines or in collaboration. We offer 2 or 4 week winter and spring residencies which begin on Sundays and end on Saturdays. Every season on the Hiiumaa island offers a different experience. Hiiumaa is a quiet place during the off-season. This is a good time to connect with nature and offers privacy and time to work with your projects. The residency is self-funded, but we are happy to send a formal confirmation/invitation letter to apply for funding after the application has been accepted.
Residentuuriprogramm on isefinantseeritav, kuid hea meelega saadame eduka kandideerimise korral ametliku kinnituskirja/kutse rahastuse taotlemiseks.

Application Process: As space is limited, we select applicants based on an evidence of their professional experience, quality of past work, project idea and compatibility with any other residents staying at the same time.
Application deadline: November 10, 2026
Available studios and dates: The residency house includes two studio/bedrooms (small and large) with private bathrooms, a fully equipped shared kitchen and a washing machine. The large studio has a big working area, a screen and a projector. Bedroom is on the mezzanine. A small studio is more intimate, where the bedroom is connected to the studio, and is more suitable for an artist or researcher who writes or works at a desk. Included in the residency fee are sheets, towels, all detergents, water, electricity, heating, and internet access. To get around there are bisycles and push sledges available depending on the weather. Residents can use the garden, the greenhouse and the honey produced by the KORDON bees.
JANUARY - May 2027
Select 2 weeks or 4 weeks (two periods) from the dates below and studio, then fill and send the application form. Priority is given to 4-week applications. We aim to get back to you within one week after application deadline.

– LARGE STUDIO = loft type studio/bedroom (40sqm) / €845 for an individual; €25 per day for an additional person in the same studio.
Successful applicants will be sent confirmation of dates, guidelines and an invoice. The residency fee must be paid at least one month prior to arrival. The granted residency period is not secure until fee payment is processed. If the residency fee and arriving information are not provided by the artist two weeks prior to arrival, the granted residency period may be cancelled automatically without notification.
KORDON, for its part, deals with communication and supports the resident with the necessary help during the residency. Please note that KORDON is an artists-run residency, whose team members are available to support and share advice, but they are not always on site depending on other commitments and projects.
Expectations towards the artist
As this is a self-funded residency, the only expectation is that the artist works on their project during the majority of their residency. We hope that this supportive environment, without the pressure to produce, will aid creativity, experimentation and the development of new ideas. KORDON offers all creative practitioners and researches a change of pace and the space to create. The residency house, greenhouse, garden and beehives operate in collaboration with the artists-in-residence. Residents are most welcome to help with watering the plants, handling firewood or cleaning the snow when there is a need for it during the residency period.
